We are now looking for our collaboration partner a highly motivated, responsible and experienced ENGINEERING MANAGER. The Engineering Manager will provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and technical direction for the engineering and workshop functions at Melita Power Diesel Ltd. This role is responsible for ensuring that projects, service interventions, and maintenance activities are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards, while remaining fully aligned with OEM requirements, classification standards, and company procedures.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving customer satisfaction, team performance, operational excellence, and commercial effectiveness across the department.
Our partner has experience of almost 40 years in marine industry. They are a trusted provider of sales, service, and technical support for marine and industrial propulsion and power solutions. Representing leading OEM brands including MTU – Rolls-Royce Solutions, Detroit Diesel, and other associated brands, MPD delivers high-quality engineering solutions, aftersales support, and customer service across Malta and the region.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership
Lead, motivate, and manage the engineering and workshop teams to achieve high standards of performance and service delivery.
Plan departmental resources, workloads, and priorities to ensure efficient execution of work.
Support the professional development, mentoring, and performance management of engineering personnel.
Foster a culture of accountability, safety, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
Project and Service Oversight
Oversee engineering projects, maintenance works, and service operations from initial planning through to successful completion.
Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with technical specifications, agreed schedules, budgets, and quality expectations.
Provide expert guidance on complex technical matters and manage escalated operational issues effectively.
Coordinate workshop and field service activities to optimise responsiveness and service reliability.
Financial and Operational Control
Monitor departmental performance, including P&L accountability, project costing, and resource utilisation.
Review and approve significant quotations, contracts, and service agreements to ensure technical and commercial soundness.
Support senior management in identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, cost control, and overall service performance.
Contribute to business planning by aligning engineering operations with company objectives and customer needs.
OEM and Technical Compliance
Ensure full compliance with OEM standards and technical requirements, particularly those of MTU – Rolls-Royce Solutions, as well as other represented brands.
Maintain effective working relationships with OEM technical networks, suppliers, and external service partners.
Support audits, reporting obligations, and compliance reviews as required.
Ensure engineering operations are conducted in line with applicable regulatory, classification, and company standards.
Customer and Stakeholder Relations
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, principals, suppliers, and other technical stakeholders.
Take ownership of major technical issues and service escalations, including urgent breakdown support during weekends and outside normal working hours when required.
Represent the engineering department in meetings and discussions with clients, OEM partners, and regulatory authorities.
Promote a professional, solution-oriented approach that strengthens customer trust and long-term business relationships.
Qualifications and Experience
Warranted Engineer qualification or an equivalent recognised engineering certification.
Significant experience within marine, mechanical, power generation, or industrial engineering environments.
Proven experience in leading engineering teams and managing technical service or workshop operations.
Strong familiarity with OEM service networks, compliance requirements, and technical reporting standards.
